Three of the best dog walking spots in Lancashire, according to our dog sitters
Our Lancashire-based dog sitters go on some fantastic walks which your pooch can enjoy as part of his or her five-star doggie holiday. We asked the team for their top three dog walking spots in Lancashire, and here’s what they had to say.
Pendle, which is in the east of Lancashire near Burnley, Nelson, and Padiham, has some beautiful walking spots that both you and your pooch will enjoy. The mighty Pendle Hill dominates most of the landscape, and on a clear day, you can even see the Lakeland Fells and Blackpool Tower in the distance.
Pendle isn’t simply a great place for dog walking, it’s also bursting with history. From Walking with Witches Trails and the Lancashire Witches Way, to Wycoller Country Park with its Bronte associations, Pendle is arguably one of the most culturally rich places to walk your dog.
Whether your four-legged friend likes to run for the hills or have a simple stroll, Pendle offers a wide variety of walking routes. From three-mile circular walks to hikes that are ten miles or more, there’s something here for everyone.
There’s nothing better than a family day out with Fido by your side. Situated in the west of Blackburn, Witton Country Park boasts over 480 acres of countryside to sniff and explore and a wide range of pretty picnic spots and nature trails. There’s also a play area, visitor centre and a café, so it has everything you might need.
Whether you visit this dog-friendly spot for an amble and a picnic, or for the kids to use the play area, you can be sure your pup will be happy to tag along and enjoy all that’s on offer.
If you’re walking the dog around the length and breadth of Lancashire, you’re bound to come across a reservoir or two during your ramble. The Wayoh and Entwistle reservoir circular walk, which is just over seven kilometres, is perhaps one of the most beautiful you’ll find.
Built in 1876 and 1832 respectively, combined, these two reservoirs supply over half of Bolton’s drinking water. This dog walking route has dense woodlands, wonderful wildlife and several climbs and descents to navigate. While it’s a great space to walk your pet pooch, it’s worth taking extra care when going across the sheep pastures and hillside field which may be home to cattle.
