The top three dog-friendly locations in Hampshire

  1. New Forest National Park

The New Forest is arguably one of the best areas in Hampshire to spend some quality time with your pooch. Offering more adventure and things to do than you (or Fido!) can shake a stick at, you could spend days exploring the gems the area has to offer. In fact, according to the New Forest National Park Authority, there are an estimated 25,000 dog walks per day in the New Forest! 1

With so many dog-friendly places on offer, its definitely worth checking out what the area has to offer. Some gems we particularly like are Bucklers Hard, where you and your furry friend can enjoy a river cruise, Hurst Castle and Ferry in Lymington, and Hurst Castle in Milford-on-Sea.

  1. The South Downs National Park

If you and your dog like nothing more than a quiet, relaxing walk, the South Downs could be the perfect place to escape. With rolling hills and bustling market towns, it covers  1,600km2  of breathtaking views. Petersfield and Alton in East Hampshire are great starting points to explore the area, as they have lots going on – and if youre looking for a pitstop, theres loads of great dog-friendly pubs in the area.

Some of our favourite dog walking routes here include Severn Sisters Country Park in Eastbourne, Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield, and the Kingley Vale Trail near Chichester.

  1. Beautiful beaches

Hampshire is home to some fantastic dog-friendly beaches that your pooch can pad along. The following beaches allow dogs, but remember to check whether they have any restrictions before you go.

The New Forest – Barton-on-Sea, Friars Cliff, Highcliffe, Hordle Cliff, Keyhaven, Lepe, Milford-on-Sea, Calshot

Solent, Fareham and Gosport – Lee-on-Solent, Gosport, Stokes Bay.

Portsmouth – Southsea Beach, Old Portsmouth, Eastney

Hayling Island – West Beachlands, West Hayling.

When you cant take your dog out on adventures yourself

It’s only natural that there will be times in your dog’s life where you have to leave him or her alone. Maybe you’re going on holiday, need to travel with work, or have a family emergency. Whatever the reason, Barking Mad Hampshire’s dog home boarding service is ready to take your furry friend on his or her next best adventure. You can find your local Barking Mad dog sitting professional here.
