County Durham is a dog walking dream, with more walking routes than you can shake a stick at. Here, our Durham-based dog sitters narrow it down to their top three, sure to give you and Fido a grand day out. There are dog walks in abundance in County Durham:
The Barnard Castle and River Tees walk is a four-mile loop situated near Barnard Castle in Durham. A popular spot for walking, fishing and canoeing, it was once a place of industry. Packed full of history and quaint countryside walks, it offers a lovely day out both for you and your dog.
Managed by the Forestry Commission, this location provides a varied environment to explore, with pine forest, mixed woodland, fantastic flowers and expansive open areas. This dog walking route includes some steep climbs and descents, following a mixture of off-road, woodland paths and high verges. At the highest points on the trail, you and your pup can take in the amazing far-reaching views, and when your walk is complete there is a café to replenish your stocks.
Starting in Seaham’s North Dock, this 11-mile route is just the ticket for dogs and humans who love a long walk. With breath taking clifftop views, gorgeous grasslands and wonderful wildlife, it’s a real treat. As the route is fairly long, we’d advise not just taking a picnic to enjoy, but also a bag of doggy supplies, including lots of fresh water and snacks.
