Back in 2000, Barking Mad founder Lee Dancy found she had a problem when going away on holiday. She needed someone to look after her beloved Dalmatian, Bronte, whilst she was out of the country, but couldn’t find the right solution. There were only two available options – have someone come into Lee’s house whilst she was away to feed Bronte, an option that felt intrusive. Secondly, there was always the option for kennels but that felt impersonal. Bronte was a member of the family and kennels didn’t feel like a fair option where she would just be another dog in the pen.
So, the idea of Barking Mad was born, a service specialising in giving dogs a loving home whilst their owners are away. Using a network of individual franchise business owners and dog lovers, Barking Mad provides a high quality service for dog owners whilst they go away. Whilst their owners are away, our franchisees look after dogs as if they were their very own, caring for them from home.

We have built up a unique reputation for excellence, and this is partly due to our franchisee selection process. This is in three basic steps.
You register your interest. After you have registered your interest then we suggest an initial phone call. On that call we will tell you more about what it means to be a franchisee, as well as give you an opportunity to tell us a bit about yourself. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little bit and, should you have any immediate questions, this gives you an opportunity to ask.
If the initial phone call goes well you will be invited to come to our Barking Mad HQ to meet the wider team. During this meeting you’ll get the chance to put names to faces, as well as have a face-to-face meeting with Lee, the founder of Barking Mad. During that confidential meeting, Lee will run through your business plan with you. She’ll also take you through the overhead and costs of running a part of the Barking Mad franchise, as well as what it means to be a part of Barking Mad from a franchisee perspective.
